History:
Founded on the principles of charity, unity, and fraternity, the Knights of Columbus was established in 1882 by Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Conn. Today, we have over Two Million members worldwide.
Resurrection’s Knights:
Council 13851 is honored to assist Resurrection Parish and our Pastor, Father Bill Moisant, when the need arises! We do more than cook for several dinners over the year, although we do enjoy providing good food and fun to our Parish family.
All good works we do are guided by our four core principles: Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism…with Charity being our main focus.
Our Catholic faith teaches us to, “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” Knights recognize that our mission and our faith in God compel us to charitable action. There is no better way to experience love and compassion than by helping those in need—a call we answer every day.
Examples of the programs we support are:
- Coats for Kids: (https://www.theangelsintheoutfield.org/)
- Sleeping Bag Program: We have donated over 4,500 sleeping bags through Portland organizations.
- Veterans Program: We work with Veterans providing funds for bedding in a new Vets Home in Salem, Oregon.
- Mother & Child Education Center (https://www.momchildpdx.org) and Fr. Taaffe Homes: The Knights are deeply involved in supporting these organizations administered through Catholic Community Services (https://ccswv.org/connect-with-us). Both organizations are open to women and children of all races and religions.
- The Father’s Heart (TFH): Working with TFH in Oregon City, we provide meals for the homeless.
- Saint Vincent de Paul Society (SVdP): The Knights collect food throughout the year, and, in turn, SVdP ensures the food is delivered to struggling families in the community.
